Front of Drovers Retreat

Drovers Retreat is our sympathetically converted 19th century stone barn at Graig Farm, in the Welsh Marches. It offers self-catering accommodation for up to six people. A travel cot and high chair are available on request.

People have lived in this tranquil rural landscape for many hundreds of years. The farmhouse was built in Queen Elizabeth 1st's reign. The barn lies above a medieval Drovers Road, a few hundred yards from a Roman Road.

Feel close to this history and tranquil landscape. Walk or cycle the green lanes, forest tracks and footpaths; listen to the sounds of nature and livestock, or just breathe the clear upland air.

Red kites and buzzards circle above on the thermals with their evocative cries, whilst sheep graze in the fields below. Just sit and absorb all nature's sounds.

Relax and unwind to soak up the solitude and majesty of nature at our exclusive and unique location.

Recharge and destress from the bustle and demands of modern life, whilst still enjoying all the family luxury and conveniences you require in a haven of peace. Then explore the local market towns and picturesque villages.

This is Welsh Border Country at its natural, idyllic best.

Welcome to Drovers Retreat.

The location and facilities, the cleanliness was outstanding. The property was first class and run by real proper people. I have stayed in a lot of places over the years and this one is certainly top of my list. Thank you Bob and Carolyn.

This is a beautiful conversion of a former agricultural building and provides very comfortable accommodation. Bob and Carolyn are wonderful hosts. There is great walking nearby without needing to get into your car, together with Elan Valley and Offa’s Dyke within an easy drive. If you want a quiet place to stay in a secluded spot this is ideal . Thank you Bob and Carolyn .

A very brief, but wonderful stay at Drovers Retreat. Very peaceful and wonderfully appointed.
Very welcoming hosts. Tea, coffee and freshly made flapjacks laid out on arrival.

What a perfect place to stay. Drovers Retreat has been a wonderful place to call home for a few days. The conversion has been done beautifully - loved it all - especially the connecting door to the magnificent games barn - who could ask for more? The peace and quiet has been broken only by the sounds of us all enjoying family games of table football, darts and pool.

What a relaxing two weeks. Cottage so comfortable, everything we needed. We enjoyed lots of long walks, So much to see right from the doorstep, we didn’t need to use the car at all. Our daughter enjoyed the horse riding at the bottom of the road. Bob and Carolyn were amazing, they really went the extra mile. We really appreciated all they did.

It was really brilliant. Very clean, well equipped, and Bob and Carolyn were really helpful, and couldn’t have been nicer. Loads to do - the dams and reservoirs were amazing and close by. Couldn’t have been better for comfort, kindness and basically a very unexpectedly gorgeous few days!

Thanks a lot for your warm welcome. The house and decoration has a lot of character, personality, and the environment breathes history. It all fits together, which makes Drovers Retreat such a unique place.
We can leave this place satisfied and with strong stories.
